KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — In the last days of Ramadan 1444 H, Dai Ambassador Dompet Dhuafa assigned in Malaysia, Ustaz Abror Bahari shared the story of his da’wah journey in the Neighboring Country. He highlighted the development of large Islamic organizations in Indonesia which also developed in Malaysia.

As the oldest organization in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah continues to spread its wings across territorial and topographic boundaries. One of the countries that witnessed the rapid development of Muhammadiyah da’wah is the Neighboring Country, Malaysia.

In Malaysia, it is not only educational institutions owned by Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah, such as Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat or PKBM (Community Learning Activity Center) or Sanggar Bimbingan that have long been formed. However, there is also pride, that is the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM).

The establishment of UMAM is a form of internationalization of Muhammadiyah mandated by the 47th Muhammadiyah Congress in Makassar in the form of building excellence centers abroad. The motor of the Muhammadiyah movement in Malaysia is Pimpinan Cabang Istimewa Muhammadiyah (PCIM) Malaysia which was established in 2007.

Currently, PCIM has overseen seven PRIMs, as stated by Ali Imran, Chairman of PCIM Malaysia. Abror Bahari, who was selected as the Dai Ambassador Dompet Dhuafa 2023 assigned in Malaysia, also admitted that he also felt the pulse of the development of Muhammadiyah’s da’wah.
