As human beings who are born to have ideals and hopes, it would be nice if we try and pray to Allah so that our wishes come true. Without effort, prayer is just a word that we say without visible results, invisible, and only wishful thinking. Without saying a prayer, there is no reminder for ourselves what we are going through the effort for.
What is Prayer?
In KBBI, prayer is a request (hope, request, and praise) to God. Indeed, prayer is our petition to Allah SWT to facilitate all affairs in achieving what is desired. Prayer for wishes to come true means we surrender to Allah SWT. It is explained in Surah Al-Ghafir Verse 60 which reads:
“Your Lord has proclaimed: ‘Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, fully humbled.”
Allah SWT promises to allow the prayers of His people, sooner or later they will be answered. Our duty as Muslims is only to carry out His commandments and to surrender to Allah SWT.

Etiquette and the Best Time to Pray for A Wish to Come True
Actually a human being with all dreams in his head, of course you hope that the dreams and hopes that we say in every prayer will come true. However, the matter of whether or not our prayers are answered lies with Allah SWT. Even so, as His people, we should continue to surrender to Him, continue to pray that wishes will come true.
There is etiquette we can do to ask Allah SWT so that our prayers may be answered. Prayer can be begun with a praise to Allah SWT., “O Allah, the Most Glorious, the Most Forgiving, the Most All”. In addition, pray with humility and a soft voice. Allah SWT is pleased with the whispers of our prayers, He is delighted if His servants “vent” about life’s problems.
Don’t forget to choose the best time to pray for wishes to be granted. The best times to pray include the last third of the night, between azan and iqamah, prostration in prayer, and when it rains. Imam Al Ghazali encourages us to pray facing the Qibla, with our hands raised. Believe that Allah SWT will accept and answer our prayers, because it is the duty of Allah SWT to listen to our prayers.
Almsgiving can Fasten the Prayers to Be Answered
Allah SWT is pleased if His servants do righteous deeds, including almsgiving. It could be that by giving alms, your prayers can be answered faster. Not only that, the return of kindness from almsgiving is written in the Qur’an and hadith, such as multiplying sustenance, prolonging life, avoiding danger, and so on. The Prophet (peace be upon him) once said: “Whoever wants his prayers answered and freed from his difficulties, let him overcome (resolve) the difficulties of others.” (HR. Ahmad).
In fact, from a psychological point of view, almsgiving can trigger positive feelings in a person, make us happier, because we feel valued by others, and increase gratitude. Almsgiving can also increase empathy and strengthen social bonds. There are many benefits that we can get in almsgiving, both religiously and psychologically. It doesn’t hurt us to set aside a little bit of our treasure to people who are more in need.
Let’s give alms to orphans and other people in need. For those of you who want to give alms practically and it can be delivered to the deserved recipients, just give alms through Dompet Dhuafa!
