SOUTH JAKARTA — Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) participated in river sustainability education activities held by the Khatulistiwa Response Team (Khatulistiwa Respon Tim) in collaboration with the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB). This activity was held on the Ciliwung River near BNI City Station on Sunday (30/7/2023). In addition, this river education activity is routinely held every Sunday from 07.00-10.00 WIB in the morning.
DMC Dompet Dhuafa represented by Risqy ‘Juto’ Qays provided several directions and materials related to river maintenance, maintenance, as well as the introduction and operation of some water rescue equipment to visitors. In addition to the knowledge gained, experience is the main benchmark in this river sustainability education activity.
Various groups took part in river education activities by the Equator Response Team and JXB, ranging from local Jakartans to foreigners, also enlivened this activity. Education about river sustainability aims to maintain, care for, and love the rivers around our environment. This is done because there are still many reports of flooding caused by blockage of river flow from overflow of garbage thrown into the river to blockage and narrowing of river flow space.

“In fact, almost 500 regencies/cities are not free from the threat of disaster. If it is not flooded, it is hit by an earthquake. If not earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and so on, “said Lilik Kurniawan as Director of Disaster Risk Reduction BNPB in 2016.
If the river is protected from garbage, at least the river’s flow will function properly and minimize the possibility of disasters such as floods. River education activities like this must be preserved and spread widely to become a benchmark for everyone not to litter.
“Alhamdulilah the river education event which coincided on the Ciliwung River went smoothly. Sunday (30/7/2023) is the third time the event will be held. Hopefully, in the future, it can be even better and many will support this river education activity,” concluded Agus Setiawan (Rimba) as Head of the Equator Response Team on the sidelines of the activity.
The participants’ enthusiasm also encouraged the volunteers to improve the quality and quality of river education.
“I am very happy to participate in activities like this, because I have gained much knowledge and experience. It seems that every week I will participate in this if not events,” said one of the river education participants.
