JAKARTA — Disaster Management Center (DMC) Dompet Dhuafa together with Forum Pengurangan Risiko Bencana or FPRB DKI Jakarta (the DKI Jakarta Disaster Risk Reduction Forum) held a disaster risk reduction training at East Park Apartment East Jakarta, on Saturday (11/2/2023). This apartment is inhabited by about two thousand people.
The Chairman of DMC Dompet Dhuafa as well as the Chairman of FPRB DKI Jakarta, Achmad Lukman, said that vertical housing had a fairly high threat and risk if there was an earthquake. Therefore, DMC Dompet Dhuafa and FPRB held vertical housing disaster risk reduction training in high-rise buildings such as apartments.
“This activity is a part of the anticipation and education on disaster preparedness that occurs in the capital, especially locations that are high-rise buildings, apartments and flats,” he explained.

The training is considered very important to educate apartment residents about how to save themselves when an earthquake occurs. Lukman took the example of the Turkiye-Syria earthquake that occurred on Monday (6/2/2023). The earthquake killed thousands of people living in apartments.
“This is based on the disasters that have occurred, for example in Turkey, many buildings collapsed and fell on the occupants in them, not only that, the physical buildings must also be taken into account in terms of disaster,” he continued.
He also explained that earthquakes and other disasters continued to lurk in Indonesia. This is because Indonesia is a country with a confluence of three plates. The movement of plates makes Indonesia very vulnerable to natural disasters, especially in the field of geology such as tectonic earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

Jakarta and other major cities in Indonesia cannot be separated from disasters. In fact, the biggest threat lies in the construction of towering buildings, including apartments and flats.
Besides the building structures that must be resistant to earthquakes, people also need to be educated on how to save themselves from natural disasters. Similarly, the society’s preparedness for natural disasters. This is a major factor in disaster risk reduction.
“If there is an earthquake in this flat, how will you save yourself? What should we do for society, especially us, who live in this place (apartment) if there was an earthquake or fire?” asked Tyo, one of the apartment residents while attending the training.
Clearly and straightforwardly, Lukman answered and explained every question raised by the trainees. (Dompet Dhuafa/PR)
