Quality Check Ahead of Eid al-Adha, DD Farm Central Java Ensures Sacrificial Animals Meet the Standards

QC THK, pastikan hewan kurban sesuai standar

KENDAL, CENTRAL JAVA — As Eid al-Adha 1445 AH approaches, Dompet Dhuafa has mobilized the Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) Quality Control (QC) Team to inspect the quality and eligibility of livestock. This activity targets all of Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrificial animal suppliers, starting from central and partner farms across the country. DD Farm Central Java (Central Java) located in Limbangan District, Kendal Regency, Central Java was one of the targets.

On Monday (5/20/2024), the QC Team landed at DD Farm Central Java. Before that, they had conducted the first QC a few weeks earlier. Technically, the QC Team needs to check the teeth, eyes, nails, body weight of the doka (sheep and goats).

Program Service Staff of Dompet Dhuafa Central Java Branch discussed with one of the DD Farm farmers named Kendi, regarding the condition of livestock on Monday (5/20/2024) at DD Farm Central Java.
Before the inspection by the QC Team on Monday (20/5/2024), the farmers shaved the goats’ hair first.

The QC stage itself is divided into two, namely the first stage of selecting feeders or livestock seeds before entering the center farm or partner farm or plasma. In this part, the most important thing is that the animal is male, so as not to interfere with the animal’s reproductive process or animal deficit. Then the second stage, monitoring the growth of livestock so that they are healthy and fulfill the law until Eid al-Adha Day.

According to the Program Service Staff of Dompet Dhuafa Central Java Branch, Yusuf Amukhti, to meet the healthy criteria, the characteristics include changing the upper and lower incisors; not showing signs of illness such as weakness, lack of appetite, excreta from the nostrils, sunken eyes, dull fur and diarrhea; finally not thin and deformed.

The weight criteria of livestock must also meet Dompet Dhuafa’s standards, namely standard goats 23-28 kg, premium goats 29-35 kg, and cows weighing at least 250 kg. To achieve these targets, feeding must be done regularly twice a day. DD Farm uses two feed combinations, namely fresh forage such as grass and concentrates made from corn slamper, coffee beans, and dried kale.

In terms of health, the QC Team also checks the provision of medicines such as wormers, as well as vitamins for doka growth, which must be done once a month. After everything is fulfilled, the doka can be distributed to 17 points in remote areas of Central Java.

“DD Farm Central Java alone hopes to fulfill up to 2,000 doka targeting 17 remote areas. The criteria for the target areas are 3T, Disadvantaged, Frontier, and Outermost. On average, these areas lack qurbani, so that the residents only enjoy mutton or beef once a year. Apart from 3T, we also target disaster-prone areas,” Yusuf explained.

Yusuf conducted the inspection as part of the Quality Control (QC) stage of Dompet Dhuafa’s Qurban Animal Distribution (THK) at DD Farm Jateng, Limbangan District, Kendal Regency, Central Java.

Yusuf continued, the QC team also controls the cleanliness of the cages. DD Farm has a stage-like cage. This makes it easier for goat feces to fall directly to the bottom of the cage, so that it does not accumulate in the cage with the livestock. Farmers are required to clean up the feces immediately.

“Dompet Dhuafa is very strict in checking. Checks are carried out periodically, if someone is sick, we immediately quarantine and care for them until they are healthy again. This (checking) is to maintain the mandate of the qurbani so that it reaches the beneficiaries in a healthy condition and fulfills religious law. Hopefully, DD Farm can fulfill the number of up to 2,000 doka,” Yusuf concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa)
