JAKARTA — Every Eid al-Hajj, Dompet Dhuafa takes part in delivering qurbani to various remote areas in Indonesia, even abroad. The benefits that are distributed are not only in the form of qurbani meat, but also employment. Dompet Dhuafa does this by gathering local farmers as beneficiaries. So that they can be independent, empowered, and have a promising market.

Through dozens of Dompet Dhuafa Farm (DD Farm) centres throughout Indonesia, education related to the care and sale of sacrificial animals continues to be rolled out to residents who are local farmers and prospective farmers.

One of the beneficiaries, Meltriadi (43). Having worked for a long time as a carpenter, his fate changed after joining a farmer at DD Farm Solok, West Sumatra.

DD Farm also supplies seeds and feed for plasma or small cages run by local farmers. Innovation continues to be present. The person in charge of DD Farm Banten, Agus Salim, explained that his party implemented a new style plasma mechanism. Namely, it does not only rely on profits from livestock products, but also provides a living wage to plasma farmers every month.

‘It is called ‘new style’ because it is different from plasma in general, where farmers’ income depends entirely on the profit of livestock. Currently, DD Farm provides a regular salary (to plasma farmers) every month. If the results (of livestock) are good, they also get more profit. The goal is to empower the community and form new breeders,’ Agus explained on Monday (8/4/2024).

In Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) Dompet Dhuafa 1444 H, DD Farm farmers throughout Indonesia have produced a total of 27,419 sacrificial animals equivalent to sheep or goats. The sacrificial animals were distributed to 29 provinces in Indonesia and 12 other countries.

‘The impact of Dompet Dhuafa’s presence is very much felt. Previously, there were only three people managing the cage, now there are 10 people. Residents have jobs. I feel that I must make good use of it, because this is zakat. If I misuse it, I’m afraid it’s a sin. I hope that the people who have never received qurbani meat will receive it tomorrow (Eid-ul-Adha). They must taste the livestock produced by Dompet Dhuafa,’ concluded Meltriadi.

Eid al-Adha 1445 AH is coming soon. While performing qurbani, let’s empower local farmers throughout Indonesia by performing qurbani through Dompet Dhuafa.
