CIANJUR, WEST JAVA — Al Munawwarah Mosque located in Kp. Cieundeur, RT 01 RW 01, Bunisari Village, Warungkondang, became one of the mosques affected by the magnitude M 5.6 earthquake that shook Cianjur on Monday (21/11/2022).
When the Dompet Dhuafa team looked at it on Wednesday (4/1/2023), 44 days after the incident, the mosque was still in poor condition. Some of the mosque’s pillars were cracked and eroded. Ceramics on the walls, as well as those on the floor, were scattered. The worst was the part where the priest was destroyed.
This mosque, built in the ’60s, is the second oldest mosque in Warungkondang district. The mosque is not only for 5-time prayers and Friday prayers but is usually also used for Islamic holidays, community deliberations, five-time prayers and recitations.
Right next to the mosque, there is PAUD Cerdas Mulia. In that place, there is also a prayer activity for children. At this time, around the mosque, there can be seen lined up with tents for refugees.
Nanan Yuhanan, the Treasurer of Al Munawwarah Mosque, said that this mosque includes 100 families of residents with worshippers of around 400 people. Meanwhile, residents are currently carrying out religious activities in makeshift mosques built by residents using tent tarpaulins.
Residents of Bunisari, especially RW 01, really want to be able to worship as before. So in the last two weeks, in addition to thinking about how their families live in the refuge, residents began to clean up the rubble of the ruins of the mosque building. Gradually, Friday prayer activities have also started to be held.
Even so, until now, residents still have no plans to renovate the mosque. Residents are still thinking about their respective homes.
“Currently, residents’ activities are still focused on the house. Residents are still thinking about how they and their families sleep comfortably. If you pray five times each in the tent, “explained Nanan.

The treasurer of Al Munawwarah Mosque said that if there are funds for renovation, residents will be happy to work together to renovate.
“Residents are still terrified. If a car passes by, it will feel the vibration when a mayora factory truck usually sends goods. Sometimes they feel shocked, panicked,” he said.
