Response to Mount Lewotobi Male Eruption, Dompet Dhuafa Provides Public Kitchen and Warming Post Services

EAST FLORES, EAST NUSA TENGGARA — Present to roll out assistance to survivors of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male in East Flores Regency, Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) has established Warm Post and Public Kitchen services at several evacuation points, Wednesday (06/11/2024). DMC mobilized its volunteers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to respond quickly to the eruption and conducted assessments at the affected locations since Monday (04/11/2024).

“Currently, DMC has opened Warm Post and Public Kitchen services for the emergency needs of survivors at several evacuation points. We are also working on the distribution of other assistance,” said Muhidur, Dompet Dhuafa DMC Response Team in NTT, Thursday (07/11/2024) morning.

Muhidur also explained, as for the location of the Warm Post and Public Kitchen is divided at several points of refuge, among others: Public Kitchen in Lewolaga Sub-district, Titehena Sub-district, East Flores Regency, with 1,256 beneficiaries and Warm Post in Hikong Hamlet, Talibura Sub-district, Sikka Regency, with 723 beneficiaries.

“The current situation is that Mount Lewotobi Male is still erupting. Within a seven-kilometer radius, no activity is allowed. Affected communities have been evacuated en masse and independently to refugee camps scattered in several areas that are relatively considered safe enough.

DMC together with a joint response team conducted a basic needs assessment of the impact of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male in NTT, Wednesday (06/11/2024).

Based on the results of the temporary basic assessment by the DMC team, Tuesday (05/11/2024), it was reported that five schools were damaged and the total number of refugees to date is approximately 1,200 people. There were 10 people who died and more than 10 thousand people in seven villages were affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Pria. The emergency alert status of Mount Lewotobi Male disaster until December 31, 2024.

“We are still digging up the assessment data and are still experiencing electricity difficulties. The results of the current emergency needs assessment are food, medicine, clean water, health services, hygiene kits, bedding, blankets, tarpaulins, pampers, sanitary napkins, and clothes,” Muhidur reported.
