DEPOK, WEST JAVA — Students of Sekolah Dasar Islam Fitrah (SDIF) Al Fikri Depok are uniting kindness and solidarity to help our brothers and sisters who have become victims of the impact of earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria. On Tuesday (28/2/2023), SDIF Al Fikri handed over humanitarian funds of IDR 22,800,000 (twenty-two million eight hundred thousand rupiah) through Dompet Dhuafa.
The handover was carried out by Principal Nury Fibriany, Student Guardian Committee Dwi Rahmawati, and Vice President of the Student Council Ufaira Aisyah Cindy, to the Dompet Dhuafa team in the SDIF Al Fikri Area.
Dwi Rahmawati explained that this humanitarian action was the result of donations from students, collected through the Friday Infak Program. The Parents Committee coordinated this activity from the 1st grade to 9th grade classes. Every Friday, the students are indeed trained to carry money and put it in the money box as an infak (donation). Then the funds raised are prepared for social and spiritual activities.

Regularly, the funds collected are used as a form of acts of kindness. Usually, at least once a month there are distribution activities in the form of food packages for online taxis or motorcycles, compensation for orphans and dhuafa, and the provision of prosthetic legs.
“Maybe the money set aside is not so big for them (the students), but for those in need, it is very valuable,” said Dwi.
In relation to the earthquake that hit Turkiye and Syria, the School and the Committee wanted to instill in every students’ selves that they should care about their brothers and sisters. In addition, they must also have sympathy by setting aside part of their pocket money.
Nury added, the Friday Infak Program has actually been going on for a long time, which is about a period of 5 years. Social activities from the infak of these students are regularly held every month in the second week. Then in the fourth week, the school and the committee made a visit to the orphanage.

She continued, this activity is also a form of habituation for students, because to grow a good character such as having a sense of empathy and like-to-share, it is not an easy thing to teach. Then it must be done by habituation. One of them is by a Friday piggy bank from their pocket money.
“This time we are channeling it to Turkiye and Syria. The hope is that the activities of children donating to our brothers and sisters in need will grow a sense of empathy from them. We always remind our students that the property we have also belongs to someone else. So indeed, some of the property we have must be spent to help others,” she said.
Similar humanitarian activities have also been carried out for the victims of the Cianjur earthquake through Dompet Dhuafa. A few years ago, a similar activity was created to help the Palestinian people.
“We believe Dompet Dhuafa is trustworthy and transparent. We also get reports of the distribution. We always support each other about activities that can be collaborated. May the brothers and sisters in Turkiye and Syria always be patient with the situation that occurs. Hopefully, the economy there will improve and Allah will replace it with new families,” she concluded.
The Vice President of the Student Council, Ufaira Aisyah Cindy and her member, Ajeng Ayuningtyas Adi Putranto explained about the Student Council’s efforts in raising funds for Turkiye and Syria. They created posters that contain information about the action, spread it out and then coordinated for its collection.
“Hopefully, the situation there will continue to improve. We will always support them to continue to recover for the better,” said Cindy on behalf of all students.
