BANYUMAS, CENTRAL JAVA — In the midst of the Indonesian Volunteer Camp, DMC Dompet Dhuafa hosted a significant talk show featuring representatives from Banyumas District’s BNPB and Basarnas Cilacap on Tuesday (22/11/2023). This session aimed to underscore the importance of volunteerism and the pivotal role volunteers play in disaster management.
According to Andi, a spokesperson from Banyumas District’s BNPB, volunteers are indispensable across three critical phases of disaster management: before, during, and after a disaster occurs.
“Participation in disaster management is a collective responsibility. It’s crucial that volunteers involved in emergency responses strive to prevent or at least reduce the number of additional casualties,” he emphasized.
Echoing this sentiment, Fajar Adi Nugraha from Basarnas Cilacap highlighted the inclusivity of volunteerism.
“We welcome anyone eager to contribute positively. Depending on their skills and the nature of the operation, we accommodate all volunteers, ensuring everyone plays a role in search and rescue missions,” Fajar explained.
This year’s Indonesian Volunteer Camp, the second of its kind, saw the participation of 250 DMC Dompet Dhuafa volunteers. The camp not only served as a platform for networking but also aimed to fortify collaborative efforts and enhance the skills and competencies of volunteers in disaster management. Participants had the opportunity to engage in various classes and talk shows throughout the 2023 Volunteer Camp.

Shofa Qudus, GM of the DMC Dompet Dhuafa Program, elaborated on the camp’s objectives, stating, “Dompet Dhuafa’s Volunteer Camp is designed to foster stronger bonds and collaborations among volunteers.”
Andi further discussed the ongoing collaborations with various entities to ensure more effective coordination in disaster management.
“It’s imperative that all stakeholders, including volunteers, come together as neither the BPBD, BNPB, nor the government can tackle disasters single-handedly. Our collective goal is to minimize casualties,” Andi concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa/Anndini)
