The Beginning and Development of the Tebar Hewan Qurban

Dompet Dhuafa’s Qurbani Animal Distribution Program has started since 1994. Initially, this program was called Menebar 999 Kurban Animals. However, in 1998, the name changed to Tebar Hewan Kurban. The reason for this name change is simple, because we want to distribute qurbani animals more widely to remote areas. So that the benefits of qurbani meat can be felt by people in remote areas, not only in big cities.

Reason for Changing the Program Name

In the first year of the program, 644 goats/sheep and 8 cows were collected. Then in the second year, the number increased. In 1995, the program collected and distributed 833 goats/sheep and 6 cows. In 1996, the number of qurbani performers increased significantly. The number of sacrificial animals reached 1,339 goats/sheep and 33 cows.

Dompet Dhuafa’s Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) program has been running mandatorily since 1994.

This number has surpassed the name of the program itself, namely Menebar 999 Kurban Animals. In 1997, the program again spread the number of sacrificial animals to 1,538 goats/sheep and 35 cows. In 1998, the number of qurbani animals jumped sharply. The number of goats/sheep that were collected and distributed reached 3,015 heads (up 96%) and 99 cows (up 182.8%).

The increase in the number of qurbani animals from year to year was the background for changing the name of this program. Finally, in 1998 it was decided that the name of Menebar 999 Hewan Kurban would be changed to Tebar Hewan Kurban. However, after the name change there was a decrease in the number of sacrificial animals in 1999, namely 2,474 goats/sheep (down 22%) and 87 cows (down 14%). This was partly due to the prolonged economic crisis, which affected the annual Muslim sacrifice.

Development of Tebar Hewan Kurban Program

Three years after the economic crisis, the number of sacrificial animals collected and distributed by this program increased again. In 2002, the number of sacrificial animals collected was 6,230 goats/sheep and 163 cows. However, the increase in this year was very small compared to Tebar Hewan Kurban in 2001.

Then in 2003, there were many natural disasters in the country which were also followed by an increase in the price of sacrificial animals. This caused the number of qurbani animals to decrease from the previous year. To be precise, there were only 5,538 goats/sheep (down 12%) and 149 cows (down 9%). However, in terms of turnover, the Tebar Hewan Kurban program experienced an increase.

However, we are grateful for whatever we have gained. Alhamdulillah, since the program was first launched until its 30th year, we have learned one lesson after another. The number of qurbani donors who entrust their trust through the Qurbani Animal Distribution Program continues to increase. This makes the benefits of qurbani also expand. More and more mustahiks are reached by us. Not only in big cities, but also in remote areas.

From 1994 to 2023, through the Tebar Hewan Kurban Program, Dompet Dhuafa has collected and distributed 662,743 goats/sheep, 21,644 premium goats, and 19,232 cows. The meat from these sacrificial animals has also been enjoyed by 22,617,329 beneficiaries spread at home and abroad.

In 2023 alone, the benefits of Tebar Hewan Kurban have been felt by 1,777,080 beneficiaries spread across 29 Indonesian provinces and 12 countries outside Indonesia. Let’s continue to expand the benefits of qurbani for people in need with the Dompet Dhuafa Qurbani Animal Distribution Program. Your qurbani will always be delivered!
