TOKYO, JAPAN — Friday, 8 March 2024 was the first day for 3 preachers and 1 daiyah Dai Ambassador Dompet Dhuafa arrived in Japan. They are Dr. Cecep Sobar Rochmat S.Th.I, M.Pd.I, Dr. Cutra Sari, S.Sos.I, M.Ag, Dr. Lukman Sumarna, MApD, and Ahmad Muqorrobin, PhD.

The four immediately rushed to the oldest and largest mosque in Japan, the Camii Mosque in Tokyo to perform Friday prayers. Arriving there, they were presented with the beauty of calligraphy that surrounds the walls of the mosque decorated with beautiful lights hanging in the middle with a golden blue dome that makes the eyes comfortable. It all made the preachers want to linger inside the Camii Mosque.

The existence of the mosque cannot be separated from the history of the arrival of the first Muslim immigrants in Japan from Turkey. At that time, they were the first Muslim entities to come to Japan. No wonder then that the Camii Mosque is very impressed like Hagia Sophia.

Not only is the design and decoration beautiful, but the application of the practice of worship that uses the Hanafi Mazhab with lafaz ikamah whose pronunciation is the same as the azan, that is, all sentences are repeated twice, is no less beautiful. Similarly, the sermon is presented using three languages, namely Arabic, Turkish and English.

‘This mosque is amazingly equipped with the largest halal mini market in Japan. A meeting room that seats about 50 people, a shop for Islamic books in Japanese, English and Turkish. The mosque’s history room is decorated with photos of the ups and downs of the mosque’s existence from the 18th century. It also has a spacious kitchen for cooking iftar menus, wudu stations, bathrooms, and comfortable toilets, as well as a library on the ground floor. In addition, the mosque is also open to the public, not only for Muslims, but also non-Muslims. This mosque is also used as one of the main objects of Islamic spiritual tourism in Tokyo,’ said Cecep Sobar Rochmat, Dompet Dhuafa’s Dai Ambassador for Japan assignment.

After the Friday prayer, which was attended by around 300 worshippers who had to go outside the mosque due to the limited area inside the mosque, Alhamdulillah, the preachers had the opportunity to meet with the Grand Imam of the Camii Mosque, Sheikh Taufiq al-Hafidz from Istanbul, Turkey. They had a conversation in Fushah Arabic. Sheikh Taufiq was very happy with the arrival of Dompet Dhuafa’s preachers.

At the meeting, the Dai Ambassadors had the opportunity to explain about their duties as Dompet Dhuafa’s da’wah ambassadors and explain about Dompet Dhuafa. Sheikh Taufiq is an imam who has memorised 30 Juz of the Qur’an with a very loud and melodious voice.

Their meeting then ended with a photo in front of the imam’s office. With a smile full of happiness, Sheikh Taufiq hoped that the arrival of the preachers would not be the last. In addition, he also hopes that one day he can visit Indonesia. Inshallah.
