JAKARTA — Goodness can emerge from every aspect of life. It can also come from every bright smile, from the courage to embrace differences, or even from a series of small, selfless acts. This is exemplified by the Ngakarya Community.
The goodness from Ngakarya is manifested in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa. Ngakarya itself is an art community that not only encourages creativity but also focuses on social issues. This synergy of kindness is one expression of the community’s concern for education in Indonesia, packaged in the form of a live mural event held on Sunday (24/1/2023), in the Green Space Area of the Big Bang Festival.
Adopting the theme “Concern for Education in Remote Areas of Indonesia,” Dompet Dhuafa also engaged several other art communities, such as Our Happiness Space, Indo Doodle, and Holy Art Space. The artworks from this live mural event will be auctioned online, and 100% of the sales/auction proceeds will be donated to the Build Schools in Remote Areas Program.

The colors of goodness from each brushstroke speak of hope and beauty. Each painting is proof that beauty does not stop at the canvas but extends through the hands of artists who choose to give more. They donate their work to embrace boundless goodness. These paintings are not just works of art; they are symbols of genuine concern.
“There are many ways to share, and one of them we pursue is by sharing through artworks, to help education in remote areas, through an attractive and impactful program at Dompet Dhuafa. The principle of Dompet Dhuafa’s program is always impactful and brings many benefits to Indonesia,” said Ilyas, Founder of Ngakarya.
The bleak portrait of education still clings to Indonesia to this day. According to Kemendikbudristek data in 2020, there were about 1,413,523 recorded classrooms, with approximately 1,222,064 of them in a damaged condition (light, moderate, & severe categories). This means only 14% of classrooms in Indonesia are in a suitable condition, and 86% are damaged or less suitable.

Through this kindness program, Dompet Dhuafa hopes not only for changes to buildings but also for an improvement in the quality of teachers, making them more adaptive to technology.
“Dompet Dhuafa wants to continue contributing and collaborating broadly in building education in Indonesia evenly. Not just in urban areas, but also education in various regions in remote areas of Indonesia. The effort to provide the best infrastructure to support the best education is not only about physical renovation but also about how to help build the best motivation and learning patterns through this program,” explained Yudha Andilla, Retail Manager at Dompet Dhuafa.
