SUKABUMI, WEST JAVA — Through the Community Service Institute (LPM), Dompet Dhuafa visited Kampung in Sukabumi remote areas. Departing from the Dompet Dhuafa headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday (4/4/2023), Dompet Dhuafa’s team travelled about 200 kilometres for 7-8 hours by land took a four-wheeled fleet to visit Cicangkuang Village, Cimahpar Village, Kalibunder District, Sukabumi.
Having arrived there, Dompet Dhuafa was enthusiastically welcomed by around 200 residents of Cicangkuang Village. Dompet Dhuafa’s visiting village (Grebek Kampung) is a program that routinely rolls out during Ramadan by presenting community togetherness activities, spiritual activities and sharing.

“Old-young, male-female, Cicangkuang residents are extraordinarily enthusiastic. We immediately held a Public Kitchen on the first day to prepare for iftar together, starting visiting (Grebek) Village activities. The mothers cook a variety of Sundanese specialities, which the fathers look for fish and pick coconuts,” said Priyanto, LPM Dompet Dhuafa team as PIC Grebek Kampung in Cicangkuang.
Not only is there a Public Kitchen to break the fast together, but visiting (Grebek) Kampung also presents other activities, including MSME Merchandise Wholesale, Mosque Clean Action, Short Islamic Boarding School, Cash Principal Debt, distribution of Ramadan Parcel assistance, a woman praying cloth Exchange, to Shopping with Orphans.

“We also aim to distribute assistance in this program for the elderly, single parents, orphans, and the poor. All are rolled out for the common goal of raising the spirit of Ramadan, building children’s spirituality, rejuvenating houses of worship, caring for the elderly, caring for Quran’s reciting teachers, and empowering micro-enterprises,” said Priyanto.
“(Hatur nuhun), thank you for buying my satay (merchandise). (Sing) hopefully, more blessings and benefits to eating iftar together,” said Nija (60), a mobile pelvic chicken satay trader, one of the beneficiaries of wholesale MSME merchandise “Visiting (Grebek) Cicangkuang Village”.
Priyanto also explained Grebek Kampung in Cicangkuang became very interesting because access to Cicangkuang Village was challenging to reach; in transportation, there was no transportation, and the road was steep and rocky in a hilly area. Although there is electricity, the internet has yet to be available.

The main livelihood of Cicangkuang residents is making coconut sugar. They tap coconut sap which is then processed into coconut sugar. Some are while farming rice, orcharding avocados and others.
“On the second day, we toured several residences while distributing Ramadan parcels for teachers and the elderly. Meet Mrs Ijon, a family of coconut sugar makers, living in the same house with her mother, Mak Karmi, who is 90 years old,” Priyanto admitted in Grebek Kampung on the second day, Wednesday (5/4/2023).
“Our activities are Shopping with Orphans and Short Islamic Boarding Schools this afternoon. Shopping trips are a bit far because there is no shopping center area here. The Short Islamic Boarding School located in Madrasah Al Badr has just been re-established by non-governmental organizations because the building has not long collapsed due to a run-down building.
