JAKARTA — December is synonymous with Mother’s Day, a time when everyone reflects on and appreciates the boundless love and role of a mother, akin to an endless ocean. To foster awareness among women about the nobility and crucial role of mothers in the community, Dompet Dhuafa, in collaboration with the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) of Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad, organized a waqf parenting study titled “Mother: The First Madrasah for Children” at Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad Tebet, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (27/12/2023).

The study featured dr. Aisyah Dahlan, CMHt, CM.NLP, widely recognized as a speaker focusing on neuroparenting, parent and child psychology, households, and families, all discussed from health and religious perspectives. Besides dr. Aisyah Dahlan, the event also welcomed Ustazah Maryanti from the Da’i Corps of Dompet Dhuafa, along with the management of DKM Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad and the Dompet Dhuafa Team.

The event opened with the recitation of salawat accompanied by hadrah, followed by the congregation. The predominantly female congregation enthusiastically recited the salawat, hoping to attain the intercession of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Afterwards, Ustazah Maryanti began her sermon on waqf as a form of perpetual charity that brings endless rewards. She mentioned that many people believe that wealth does not follow one after death, but in reality, it can.

“The Prophet SAW said: ‘When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: a continuous charity (waqf), knowledge which is beneficial, or a righteous child who prays for them,'” explained Ustazah Maryanti.

The continuous charity referred to here is waqf. Fortunately, one does not need to be wealthy to participate in waqf. Dompet Dhuafa provides an easy service for fulfilling waqf obligations starting from just IDR 10,000.

Furthermore, Ustazah Maryanti reminded that faith and generosity are interconnected. According to a hadith of the Prophet SAW, stinginess and faith will never coexist in a servant’s heart forever.

“One way is through a joint waqf campaign for ambulances in Palestine. At Dompet Dhuafa, we can also start waqf with just IDR 50,000, making waqf one of the proofs of our faith in Allah SWT,” she stated.

To honor and remember a mother’s love, Ustazah Maryanti also invited the congregation to make a waqf in the name of their parents, especially mothers.

“This becomes proof of our devotion to our mothers,” she said.

After discussing waqf, the next session focused on the main topic of the study, “Mother: The First Madrasah for Children,” by dr. Aisyah Dahlan, CMHt, CM.NLP. Ustazah Aisyah Dahlan invited the congregation to dedicate al-Fatihah to their mothers. According to dr. Aisyah, there is one organ in the human body that emits extraordinary waves.

“The heart is the center of these waves. Because the heart carries intentions, prayers, and assumptions in the form of light for something or someone we aim for. Our prayers can penetrate not just walls, but also realms,” she explained.

To extend the signal or wave to be stronger, dr. Aisyah encouraged the congregation to maintain ablution, pray, fast, give continuous charity (waqf), and perform tawaf at the Kaaba.

“At these moments, the signal within us is very strong and extended. Therefore, take advantage of these moments to pray earnestly and specifically,” she advised.

She also detailed the phases of individual growth. According to dr. Aisyah, the environment has a significant influence on an individual’s development. From ages 1-6, the most significant influences are the father and mother. Then, from ages 7-12, individuals tend to listen to what teachers say. The next phase is ages 13-20, where peers become the primary reference. At ages 21-35, individuals start to express their own opinions.

According to dr. Aisyah, the more we scold or reprimand them incorrectly, the “wilder” their “self” becomes. This is because individuals in this phase want their ideas to be heard.

“Mothers are like harbors, and their children are ships that will dock,” she revealed.

The final phase that influences an individual is from age 36 onwards. At this stage, individuals start to appear mature. The integration of thoughts, emotions, and spirituality begins. Individuals at this stage should build intense and consistent communication with Allah. At this age, individuals usually become parents to their children.

She shared tips with the congregation, advising to avoid giving harsh advice or reprimands to daughters from 2 days before menstruation until 5 days after. Secondly, look into their faces when advising daughters. The tips for sons are different.

“Never advise sons when they are hungry, thirsty, or sleepy,” revealed dr. Aisyah Dahlan.

Before closing the waqf study session, dr. Aisyah Dahlan invited the congregation to make a waqf in the name of their mothers. This will be the most beautiful gift for mothers who are alive or have passed away. By making a waqf in the name of the mother, the eternal flowing reward will reach her.

“Let’s give the best gift to our parents, especially our mothers. Let’s make a waqf through Dompet Dhuafa, then convey our best prayers. At that moment, the signal within us radiates far and strong,” she said.

Dompet Dhuafa serves as a nazir registered and certified by the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI). In this moment, Dompet Dhuafa initiates a kindness movement, Waqf for Mothers, to honor mothers. The accumulated results from this waqf kindness will be channeled to procure waqf ambulances for our brothers and sisters in Palestine. (Dompet Dhuafa/Waqf/Hafiz/ADP)
