SOUTH SULAWESI — Through the South Sulawesi Branch of Health Services (LKC), Dompet Dhuafa seeks to optimize the role of older people towards SMART (Healthy, Independent, Active, and Productive) and effectiveness. This effort is also supported by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI), which also synergizes with Dompet Dhuafa in welcoming the commemoration of National Elderly Day (HLUN) on May 29, 2023.
Since May 8, 2023, AoC (Agent of Change) Training has been conducted, training 25 elderly AoCs. Taking place in Makassar, this training is expected and sought to optimize the role of older people in the scope of increasing knowledge, the ability to educate fellow elderly, and being actively involved in screening and elderly health services.

Furthermore, on May 10-11, 2023, as many as 300 older adults seemed enthusiastic about participating in the implementation of healthy gymnastics and elderly health screening. This activity was conducted in 5 Public Health Centers in Makassar City, Kassi-Kassi Public Health Center, Pampang Public Health Center, Jongaya Public Health Center, Dahlia Public Health Center, and Kaluku Bodoa Public Health Center.
“Today, LKC Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi has carried out activities for the elderly in the form of healthy gymnastics, screening, and health checks including checking blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid), as well as elderly health screening including GDS (Geriatric Depression Scale) examination, ADL (Activity Daily Living) Screening, Fall Risk Assessment, and Nutrition targeting the elderly aged 60 years and over in each puskesmas, ” said Maryunita Yusmar as the person in charge of the HLUN LKC DD-South Sulawesi series.

This activity took place from 08.00-13.00 WITA and received good responses from older people. The enthusiasm of older people to visit the examination site and approach the examination table can be seen. One of the older people, Rosnani (65), admitted that this activity benefited her, especially free.
“LKC Dompet Dhuafa will continue to provide various services, one of which is in the health sector through LKC. Health itself has become one of the essential pillars in Dompet Dhuafa’s vision to alleviate poverty.
