JAKARTA – Entering the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. (Rabiul Awal 1444 H.), Dompet Dhuafa, together with the Yayasan Pejuang Subuh and Ibu Nusantara Berbagi (INUBE), held a Mass Circumcision event on Thursday (29/9/2022) at the Pondok Indah Grand Mosque, South Jakarta. This event was attended by 250 children from orphans and disadvantaged groups (Dhuafa families).
This mass circumcision event was held in the hope of helping children who want to circumcise but are not capable of doing it due to the high cost of circumcision. Agung, the vice chairman of the Pejuang Subuh Foundation, said, “This event is one of our ways to welcome the month of the Prophet’s birth. We also want to help the surrounding residents so that they can get circumcised”.
Adding to this, Yanti, as the head of the event committee, said that circumcision is one of the Islamic sharia. It is proper for every boy to perform circumcision as evidence of obedience to Allah and His Messenger. Sharia from Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Ibrahim to avoid uncleanness on the body parts, especially during prayers.
“Khitan (circumcised) is one of the Islamic sharia and we want to make it easier for local residents to be able to circumcise without thinking about costs,” he said.
Children’s playfulness following mass circumcision events
This noble event was also attended by the Mayor of South Jakarta, Marullah Matali. He attended and participated in the entire series of events. In his remarks, he reminded the children who want to be circumcised and the parents that circumcision is not just Islamic sharia. But its benefits are for lifelong health. He also advised children not to be afraid when they are circumcised. Although it will hurt, it is only temporary.
“Circumcision is just a temporary pain but the benefits are forever,” he said.
Yanti expressed his gratitude to Dompet Dhuafa for helping to carry out this mass circumcision event. He also hopes that this kind of activity can continue to take place on other days. “We hope to continue collaborating again in the future,” he continued.
The participants who attended were also happy with this mass circumcision event. Faiz (5), one of the participants, said, “It’s good to be able to participate in today’s activity, get a lot of prizes too.”
Hundreds of children from all over crammed the Mass Circumcision event
Although it was initially planned to cater to 250 children, those who attended exceeded the target. A total of 263 children came from various directions, enthusiastically participating in this event. They are children with an average age of 2 – 6 years. Instead of feeling tired, the advantages above this target made the Dompet Dhuafa team, the Pejuang Subuh Foundation, and INUBE more enthusiastic about giving their best.
“Alhamdulillah, the participants who attended exceeded the target. Considering that this event is held on weekdays, and it is not a holiday either,” said Yanti. (Dompet Dhuafa / Muhaitsam)
