Wheelchair Assistance to Improve the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly

BOGOR, WEST JAVA – Dompet Dhuafa through the Community Service Institute (LPM) collaborated with the Community Workers Association (IPSM) and the Bogor Regency Social Service, again distributed productive zakat in the form of 22 wheelchairs and 9 walking aids for people with disabilities and the elderly, in seven villages in Rancabungur District, Bogor Regency on Tuesday (14/1/2025).

The process of handing over assistance previously began with an assessment of the beneficiaries, so that it is hoped that these wheelchairs and walkers are really right on target.

Ahmad Sonhaji, Dompet Dhuafa’s Director of Da’wah and Cultural Social Services, expressed his hope that this assistance would provide comfort to the beneficiaries.

“If later this tool is no longer used after recovery. We have arranged a return mechanism to IPSM so that it can be reused by other people in need,” said Ahmad Shonhaji.

The symbolization of the distribution of wheelchairs and walkers took place at the Rancabungur District Office, Bogor Regency. In line with that, Kamaludin, Head of LPM Dompet Dhuafa, also hopes that this assistance can continue.

“We hope that this assistance will have a significant impact on the community. In addition, the rotation of the utilization of this tool will also expand its benefits for the long term,” said Kamaludin.

Emong (84), one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude for this assistance. All this time, Emong has only relied on a wooden stick to walk.

“It’s difficult for me to walk now, I only use a wooden stick. Thank you very much, I am very grateful. Alhamdulillah, let my benefits be used. Hopefully, it will be rewarded by Allah Swt,” she said emotionally.

This activity is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of productive zakat and collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa, IPSM Rancabungur, and the Bogor Regency Social Service in supporting the needs of underprivileged citizens, especially empowering people with disabilities.

“Hopefully this initiative will be a stimulant to build cooperation with various other stakeholders, especially in the Rancabungur area and Bogor Regency,” continued Ahmad Shonhaji.

Dita Aprilia, Sub-district Head of Rancabungur Sub-district, Bogor Regency in her speech expressed her appreciation to Dompet Dhuafa for its concern for the welfare of people with disabilities and the elderly in Bogor Regency.
