In the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the mother of several Moroccan national team players stole the audience’s attention. Mothers seemed to pray for their children from before the game started until it was over. The portrait of Achraf Hakimi kissing his mother’s forehead after the Moroccan national team successfully defeated the opposing team went viral on social media. From there, netizens then concluded that the prayers of the mothers of the Moroccan National Team were the key to the success of the Moroccan National Team in winning 4th place in the 2022 World Cup.
So, why is Mother’s prayer mustajab and worshipped by Allah SWT? The following is an explanation of the Quran and Hadith.
Mother’s Hard Work Betting Lives
One of the things that makes a mother’s position high in Allah Swt, so that her prayers tend to be mustajab is her struggle to give birth and educate her children. It is explained in the Quran surah Al-Ahqaf verse 15 below:

“We have urged the man to be kind to his parents. In pain did his mother bear him and in pain did she give birth to him. The carrying of the child to his weaning is thirty months. And when he is grown to full maturity and reaches the age of forty, he prays: “My Lord, dispose of me that I may give thanks for the bounty that You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and dispose of me that I may do righteous deeds that would please You, and also make my descendants righteous. I repent to You and am one of those who surrender to You.” (QS. Al-Ahqaf: 15)
Through the above verses of the Quran, Allah Swt commands His servant to do good to his main mother’s parents. The reason is that the mother has risked half of her life to give birth to a child and gave up a lot of time to educate the child until she grows up. What a mother’s sacrifice is not worth anything in the world, even in a hadith the Prophet Muhammad Saw mentions that the sins of the one who kills can be redeemed by filial piety to the mother.
“From Ibn’ Abbas, a man came to him, and said to Ibn Abbas: “I once wanted to propose to a woman, but she was reluctant to marry me. Then there was someone else who proposed to him, and then the woman wanted to marry him. I was jealous and killed the woman. Can I still repent?” Ibn Abbas replied: “Is your mother still alive?” The man replied, “No, she passed away.” Then Ibn Abbas said: “Then repent to Allah and draw near to Him as close as possible.” Then the man left. I (Atha’) asked Ibn Abbas: “Why did you ask him whether his mother was still alive?” Ibn Abbas replied: “I do not know the practice that can draw nearer to Allah but birrul walidain.” (HR. Al Bukhari in Adabul Mufrad, sanadnya shahih).

In another verse of the Quran, Allah reiterates that a mother’s duty is not light because she mediates the birth of a human being on Earth. A mother’s hardships and sufferings since pregnancy does not diminish when she gives birth. The trials experienced from breastfeeding to her childhood growing up and being able to care for herself are only felt by a mother.
“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final destination” (QS. Luqman: 14)
Mother’s Degree on the Side of Allah SWT
Mother, Mother, Mother, and then Father. This expression we have often heard among Muslims, because it is stated in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad Saw which reads:
“From Mu’awiyah bin Haidah Al Qusyairi radhiyallahu ‘anhu, he asked the Messenger of Allah Saw: “O Messenger of Allah, who am I most entitled to treat well?” The Prophet replied: “Your mother.” “Then who else?” The Prophet replied: “Your mother.” “Then who else?” The Prophet replied: “Your mother.” “Then who else?” The Prophet replied: “Your father, then the closer ones after and after”.” (HR. Al Bukhari)

Based on the hadith, it can be concluded that the position or degree of a mother on the side of Allah and His Messenger is very high. No wonder the mother’s prayer became mustajab, especially the mother’s prayer for her child.
In addition, other hadiths affirm the degree of a mother on the side of Allah and His Messenger. This hadith states that a mother is so valuable that heaven is under the soles of her feet.
“From Mu’awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami, he came to see the Messenger of Allah Saw. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, I want to join the war and I am now begging you for advice.” The Prophet Saw then said: “You still have a mother?” Mu’awiyah replied: “Yes, I have.” The Prophet Saw said: “be devoted to your mother (first), for there is heaven under her feet”.” (HR. An-Nasa’i, Ibnu Majah, dan Ahmad)
God also hangs His ridha on a mother. Whoever gets ridha of a mother, then he will also get ridha of God. So much so that God rewards a mother, it makes His representative mother to give His rida to a human being. This is by the following hadith of Prophet Muhammad Saw.
“The ridha of Allah depends on the ridha of the parents and the wrath of God depends on the wrath of the parents.” (HR. Hasan At-Tirmidzi)
