JAKARTA — Each step in our journey reveals profound meaning when we recognize life as a platform for creating significance, personal growth, and positive contributions to the world around us.
The true essence of life emerges from being beneficial to others—a core principle that inspires everyone to lead a meaningful existence and make a positive impact on others.
This concept was articulated by scholar Yudi Latif during the inauguration and handover ceremony of the Board of Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika for the 2024-2029 term, held at the Dompet Dhuafa Philanthropy Building in Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/1/2023).

“It’s not about where we are, but the magnitude of benefit we can deliver in this world. Dompet Dhuafa offers us a platform to be of service to many. Let’s embrace this opportunity, and execute this noble duty with joy, as it is an honor to be of benefit to many,” Yudi Latif expressed.
In his discourse, Yudi highlighted that Indonesia’s prosperity challenges could be addressed through innovative entrepreneurship, which opens opportunities for inclusive economic growth and enhanced community welfare.
“Human capital is crucial for prosperity. This is where entrepreneurship comes in—the ability to transform resources into functional entities,” he elaborated.
Derived from the French word ‘entreprendre,’ meaning to undertake, entrepreneurship, according to Yudi, transcends the mere collection of Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and Waqf (Ziswaf) funds. It is, rather, a conduit for fostering the entrepreneurial spirit across all life facets.
Yudi asserted, “Entrepreneurship isn’t confined to producing goods; it encompasses the capacity to make something operational.”

“Therefore, entrepreneurship extends beyond product creation. It includes management skills and the importance of continuous improvement. That’s why we’re engaging in trial and error, reforming Dompet Dhuafa’s governance system, as part of entrepreneurship, to transform the non-functional into functional,” Yudi explained.
Entrepreneurship involves a commitment to continuous innovation and improvement.
“We must persist in continuous improvement, avoiding complacency, for stagnant water, as Imam Shafi’i warned, breeds disease; it must flow. God has blessed us with limitless gifts, making these blessings truly remarkable,” he added.
Yudi Latif also believes that poverty encompasses more than just resource scarcity—it includes a lack of access to information. The impoverished often lack knowledge of effective farming techniques and how to find, process, and produce new, self-made fertilizers.
“The essence of human capital lies in the capacity for creative thinking—the ability to intellectually process the available gifts with an entrepreneurial spirit,” he further added.

Yudi views Dompet Dhuafa’s success in generating knowledge, thought, and entrepreneurial skills, thereby providing more than mere material assistance.
“This has sparked a significant movement. Together, we can elevate ourselves, thereby enhancing the joy of investing in the afterlife, and ultimately recognizing that the best among us are those who benefit others the most.”
“A single firefly illuminates the darkness with its flicker, but when a million fireflies shine in unison, with a shared movement of goodness, they create a sea of light. With the establishment of a multiplier effect, we aim to initiate numerous initiatives for collective awareness and joy,” he concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa/Anndini)
